Job Title: Freedom of Information Officer Location: Southall, Ealing Hourly Pay Rate: £13.74 Hours: 37.5 Length of the contract: Due to end January 2023 Grafton Recruitment are now seeking to appoint a Freedom of Information Officer to our client based in Southall, Ealing. The role involves working as part of a small team, collating and producing Freedom of Information request responses and/or Subject Access Requests. You would also be required to keep logs and work with departments to ensure that information is provided on time to requestors. Close working relationships would include the Information Department, Service Managers, Medical Records Department to and General Managers as well as any contacts involved in the supply of information for completing requests. Responsibilities of the Freedom of Information Officer To provide advice and to complete the collation and response to requests relating to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). To receive Freedom of Information requests centrally and determine their legality. Work independently to distribute requests to information holders for appropriate responses. To advise information holders of the legal context. To identify complex requests and to discuss the potential application of statutory exemptions using specialist knowledge to ensure that exemptions are applied appropriately to prevent unjustified disclosure. To log and maintain records of requests and responses, ensuring a full audit trail. To ensure that responses are timely and dispatched within the statutory time limit. To coordinate reviews of the application of exemptions and to manage Freedom of Information appeals against the client to the Information Commissioner's Office, including liaising with the client's solicitors as required. To establish and manage a network of Freedom of Information leads across the client and to advise, support and instruct the network using expert knowledge and experience. To work flexibly with the ability to manage multiple and diverse requests at the same time. To understand and be able to interpret FOIA requirements and exemptions to create requests for internal fulfilment by department To maintain robust procedures for responding to requests for access under the Freedom of Information Act and under the Data Protection Act. Working with other team members to understand and support IG requirements for the client including the coordination and facilitation of evidence gathering for the Data Security and Protection (DSP)Toolkit. Producing statistics and working with the IG Manager and Deputy SIRO to identify risk areas related to staff training needs. Support the regular audit cycle for Data Flow Mapping Production of reports and statistics related to Freedom of Information requests and Subject Access requests for steering group meetings attended by the IG Manager and/or the Deputy SIRO. Role Criteria Necessary skills are strong keyboard skills and use of spreadsheets, formal letter writing, and a recognised certificate in English language. Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 is advantageous.
