We now have a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring Deputy Head Teacher to join our close-knit team at Darwin School. About the School: Darwin School is an independent school in the county of Shropshire, we provide education for students aged 8 to 18. We currently have capacity for up to 20 students. Pupils are in long-term placements which are usually a duration of around 12-18 months and they all reside in one of our local specialist care homes. Teaching groups are currently a maximum of 4 pupils and staff have extensive knowledge of SEND. At Darwin School we seek to Nurture, Evolve and Empower our young people. About the Role: The Headteacher is seeking to appoint an aspiring Deputy Head Teacher to join this thriving specialist School. Reporting to the Headteacher, they will be responsible for assisting the Head in all aspects of the running of the establishment and Deputise for the Head in their absence. Who are we looking for? While ideally, we are looking for a qualified Teacher, we will consider applicants who are experienced Instructors who have the required ambition and desire. While experience within a specialist provision would be desirable, we will consider applications from those who are currently working in a mainstream or college setting. Training and development will be provided for the successful candidate in line with the identified needs of the school, the skills of the individual and their prospective career progression. Key Accountabilities: To be responsible for assisting the Head in all aspects of the running of the establishment and Deputise for the Head in their absence. To participate as a member of the Senior Management Team of the establishment in the planning and implementation of policies, practice and working procedures. To oversee the Education, Care and Clinical relationships, and take specific responsibility for one or more if required by the Head With specific reference to educational practices, to advise, recommend, evaluate and determine procedures for policy making. To ensure, via regular evaluation, that the curriculum for each individual student is suitably broad and balanced and meets legal requirements. To have responsibility for identifying and determining together with the Head and Senior Management Team, the curriculum to match the ethos of the establishment. Essential Criteria: Experience of teaching and leading within a specialist or mainstream setting A dedicated work ethic to ensure the needs of all students Is passionate about making learning effective and enjoyable Qualified in subject specialism DBS cleared and satisfactory references Ability to work on own initiative Why work for us?
